Annapurna Encounter offers Tibet Overland Journey & Everest Base Camp an amazing trip on the roof of the world within highest and largest plateau on earth, this trip to Tibet Overland Journey & Everest Base Camp starts with a scenic flight from Kathmandu overlooking chain of world’s highest mountains including Mt. Everest, Mt. Makalu and Cho Oyu during an hour flight to Lhasa, Tibet.

In Lhasa, world’s highest capital at 3,660 meters tour of classic old areas visiting important monasteries and places of interest with incredible majestic Potala palace a dominant monuments of Lhasa, after an impressive times in Lhasa with tour of Potala Palace, Drefung, Sera monasteries and Jorkang Temple within the old part of Lhasa with colorful Barkhor market, the hub of the city where the Tibetans way of life with old cultures and traditions can be observed as it for centuries, after Lhasa on the scenic drive towards Kathmandu through picturesque Yamdrok Tsho lake passing high passes of Khamba-la to reach Gyantse and Shitase city both important cities in Tibet, with a tour around its marvelous monasteries and monuments of Khumbum Stupa and Tashilumpo golden roof monastery seat of Panchen Lama, then over the highest pass of this trip at Gyatso-la at 5,220 meters and driving through many nomads camps in the wild wide valley of Tibetan plateau and then the journey leads to Shegar over high pass at Pang-la 5,200 meters with amazing panorama of Himalayan world’s highest mountains in between Tibet and Nepal with Mt. Everest and Mt. Cho-Oyu, and then the drive to Rongbuk for overnight stop with time for a visit to North Everest base camp after a grand time, next day crossing over the last high pass of this fantastic journey over Lalung-la pass at 5,050 meters overlooking panorama of Himalayan peaks that border Tibet/Nepal with world’s last 14th highest Shisapangma at 8,013 meters, from here leaving the Tibetan dry and arid plateau to green forested area after passing the Nylam town into a river gorge of upper Bhote Kosi that runs towards Nepal, and then ending Tibet Overland Journey & Scenic High Passes at Zhangmu border town with farewell to Tibet, and back to Kathmandu with six hours of interesting drive completing a remarkable Tibet Overland Journey & Everest Base Camp with Annapurna Encounter.

Day 01: Arrival in Kathmandu and transfer to hotel.
On reaching Kathmandu international airport our AE staff will receive with a transfer to hotel in the hub of Kathmandu around Thamel area, an interesting place with shops, stores, international standard restaurants.
Our staff will meet and inform you with details of the hotels and of Tibet Overland Journey & Everest Base Camp and more.

Day 02: Fly to Lhasa and drive to respective hotels 1: 10 mins flight.
Morning transfer to Kathmandu International airport depending upon the flight time, normally around 10 a.m. but 2 hours earlier to check in at China Air, once boarding the plane, change of time into Beijing Standard Time of 2 hrs:15 mins ahead Nepal Standard Time, as soon the flight lifts up looking panorama of Himalayan mountains range with Mt. Everest. As the plane lands on Tibetan soil after an hour of scenic flight to Gongar, Tibet international airport, then going over immigration and custom formalities, our Tibetan guide will meet and receive and transfer with a drive of an hour to Lhasa city, although a modern city with tall buildings and wide road, but retaining its old Tibetan culture and traditions, where our hotel accommodation is located in the eastern part of Lhasa where you can observe Lhasa and Tibetan way of life as it was for centuries.
Afternoon relax `on this high altitude at 3,660 meters, taking a short walk will help to acclimatize and to get oriented in this new country, a leisure stroll around the Barkor market square is within reach.

Day 03-04: In Lhasa with full day guided tour at places of interest.
Here in Lhasa with another two full days for acclimatization and tour of Lhasa important places of interest which includes Drefung, Sera monasteries, Jhorkang Temple and the main highlight a tour inside magnificent Potala palace as this is beautiful palace is translated as ‘ The Heavenly Realm’ with thousand of rooms, but due to time restriction and by the law of local government only an hour is allowed for visit inside the Potala palace, our Tibetan guide will inform and brief on the history and stories regarding the palace and of other interesting monasteries Drefung, Sera and Jorkang Temple that you will be engrossed in this two days of sightseeing tour in Lhasa. Dinner and lunch either in hotel restaurant or outside places at present around Barkor area there are many interesting and excellent restaurants serving all kinds of meals from western, Tibetan, Nepali, Indian to Chinese most of the eating places has Nepali cooks and chefs.

Day 05: Drive to Gyantse 3,990 m via Kamba-la and Yamdrok Tsho – 05 hrs.
After a wonderful time in Lhasa and with taste and experience of Tibet, after leaving for Kathmandu by overland drive leading towards south crossing over the first pass of Khamb-la at 4,800 meters high with tremendous views of Tibetan plateau landscapes which includes wide valley, brown hills, snow peaks and the beautiful Yamdrok Tsho lake, drive continues with descend towards the emerald turquoise Yamdrok Tsho lake, then drive along the lake shore for few hours reaching another high pass of Karo-la 5,030 meters with awesome views of Nozungkhangsa peak at 6,245 meters, with its ice falls and glaciers close to the road side near the pass, after enjoying the beautiful view, drive continues over Simi-la pass at 4,650 meters to reach at Gyntse city for overnight stop. Afternoon tour of famous Gyantse Dzong (fort) Pelkor Chode Monastery and Kumbum Stupa- a special landmark of Gyantse.

Day 06: Drive to Shigatse (Xigatse) 3, 900 meters - 03 hrs.
From Gyantse, morning a short drive to Shigatse city which is about 3 hours journey, drive leads south west passing traditional Tibetna farm villages and vast farm land with barley, wheat as main crops which grows in this high country, after a nice drive reaching at Tibet’s 2nd largest city after Lhasa, here check into a nice hotel with time in the afternoon for a tour in and around the beautiful large Tashilumpo monastery with its golden roofs, this wonderful complex is also the seat of his holiness Panchen Lama, classed as second head of state after Dalai Lama, here visting many chambers and halls with tall bronze statue of future Buddha (Matriya) at 21 meters, time permitting visit the local market.

Day 07: Drive to Shegar or Xegar (New Tingri) 4,400 m - 06 hrs.
Morning after breakfast drive continues on the main Lhasa-Katmandu or Tibet-Nepal Friendship highway, leading south direction with amazing scenery of Tibetan plateau landscapes, after few hours of good drive reaching at Larze town, this moderate size town situated on the main route Lhasa / Kathmandu highway to Mt. Kailash and Lake Manasarover to the Tibet South West. From here after a nice break drive climbs to the highest spot of this journey at 5, 220 meters pass of Gyatso-la, the top festooned with great amount of prayer flags.

After a brief stop in this windy pass, heading downhill on the winding road to Shegar town for overnight stop, this town is one of the most windy area at 4,400 meters, located on the main highway and towards Rongbuk and Everest North Base Camp.

Day 08: Drive to Rongbuk visit Everest North base camp 5,200 m – 05 hrs.
Although a windswept country Tibet but with clear blue sky most of the days in summer and autumn seasons, morning our journey leads away from the main Tibet / Nepal Friendship highway towards North East crossing over picturesque pass at Pang-la 5,200 meters high with fantastic panorama of Himalayan highest mountain range including Mt. Everest, Makalu, Lhotse, Cho-Oyu and Shisapangma with array of snow peaks bordering Tibet and Nepal. After catching the beautiful views drive descends to Tashi Dzong village and to Rongbuk monastery with excellent view of Mt. Everest or Chomolungmo in Tibetan. Here transfer into simple lodge for overnight with time for a visit to Everest Base camp for closer view of Mt.Everest North Face and return back to Rongbuk monastery for overnight after being in the world’s highest base camp and highlight of this wonderful journey.

Day 09: Drive to Zhangmu 2,200 m - 06 hrs journeys.
From Rongbuk leading by another short route, after Rongbuk river crossing the bridge heading to a climb in the windswept terrain and reaching a large villages of Lungja and Rachu then back on the main highway at Old Tingri with view of Everest and Cho-Oyu, after a rest stop here at Old Tingri drive continues heading over the last pass of this trip at Lalung-la 5,050 meters high with breathtaking panorama of snow capped mountains including Mt. Shisapangma at 8,013 meters a massive mountains located close to the mountains that straddles the border with Nepal. From here end of Tibetan and world largest, highest plateau and then heading lower through many country villages with farm lands reaching at Nylam town and on the winding narrow road through the river gorge and back to tree lines and forested area with beautiful waterfalls reaching the road side from a high rocky cliffs, the drive descends much lower reaching the last town in Tibet at Zhangmu also called as Dram or Khasa by Nepalese people. Overnight in this frontier town which is mixture of people from Tibetans, Nepali and Chinese here you can change the Chinese Yuan currency for Nepali Rupees.

Day 10: Drive to Kathmandu 1,340 m – 05 hrs (135 k.m.)
After a last night and last day in Tibetan side, morning after going through Chinese immigration continue drive for an hour to Nepal border side on crossing the Friendship bridge that divides both country, and then changing into Nepal time again going through Nepal immigration and then a nice scenic drive back to Kathmandu taking at least five hours of interesting ride, on reaching Kathmandu transfer to respective hotels with afternoon free at leisure with memories of Tibet.

Day 11: In Kathmandu with sightseeing tour at places of interest.
A day in Kathmandu with tour, as per the planned itinerary, morning guided sightseeing tour at places of interest. Kathmandu city and the surrounding valley steeped with history, culture. Kathmandu is full of World Heritage Sites with old Temples, Monasteries, Stupas, Royal Courtyard and Palaces, afternoon free at leisure for souvenirs shopping.

Day 12: International departure for home ward bound.
Last day in Nepal with memorable moment and awesome experience in Tibet, and good time with Annapurna Encounter services, as per the international flight time our AE staff will transfer you to airport for the flight back home or to respective countries.
