Annapurna Encounter offers one of the most unique journey trekking in the wild west of Nepal and Tibet to Simikot & Mt.Kailash, Tibet. Starting with a scenic sweeping flight to sub-tropical of Nepalgunj in south west Nepal and to alpine area of Simikot the major town of Humla district near Tibet frontier, and then trekking through beautiful country over high high passes passing many interesting villages steeped with old culture, religion and traditions and then over to Tibet at Takalakot town, where the trade market takes place between Nepal, Tibet, India and as far to Kashmir and Pakaistan from ancient times till present time.

After a nice wonderful trekking from Nepal into Tibet a jeep drive to pictursque and holy Lake Manasarovar and to the base of Mt. Kailash, where the holy walk /kora and parikrama the circuit starts for 3 days around stunning Mt. Kailash which stands at 6,714m / 22,028ft and ending at Darchen town the start and end of the holy walk and then driving back to Kathmandu through windswept territory passing several town and nomads camps and villages with awesome scenery of mountains range that straddles the border Tibet and Nepal and back into river gorge with beautiful forested area of tall rhododendron and pines trees heading to border town of Zhangmu and concluding this scenic fabulous journey in Kathmandu with Annapurna Encounter excellent services.

Day 01: Arrive in Kathmandu meet our staff and transfer to hotel.
On reaching Kathmandu international airport our AE staff will receive with a transfer to hotel in the hub of Kathmandu around Thamel area, an interesting place with shops, stores, international standard restaurants. Our guide will meet and inform you with details of the hotels and trekking to Simikot & Mt. Kailash in Tibet and more.

Day 02: Fly to Nepalgunj (50 minutes flight) and transfer to hotel.
Morning at leisure with 2-3 hours sightseeing tour at places of interest around Kathmandu city and its valley, afternoon, our staff will accompany and transfer to domestic terminal of Kathmandu airport for 50 minutes sweeping scenic flight to Nepalgunj city located in the most warmer area of South West Nepal close to India border of UP, with great panorama of snow capped mountains during the flight, on reaching Nepalgunj transfer to respective hotels for overnight stop.

Day 03: Fly to Simikot 2,910m & trek to Dharapuri 2,600 m - 04 hrs.
After a pleasant stop at Nepalgunj in the warmet area of Nepal, morning transfer to airport for a sweeping flight of about 40 minutes to Simikot, on reaching Simikot, after panorama views of mountains during the flight,meet our trekking staff who have reached here from Kathmandu after a long drive and walk here to recive you for an adventurous trek, on meeting our staff walk to the town of Simikot a moderate town placed on a ridge bove Humla Karnali River with fantastic views of the deep valley and mountains around.

After a nice rest here, starting the first day walk of this journey to camp at Dharapuri village, on leaving Simikot area, walking uphills into farm fields of barley, buck wheats and to forested hill and then with downhill through several farm villages to our first overnight camp at Dharapuri a neat farm village of Hindu Thakuri Chettri people.

Day 04: Trek to Sally-Khola 2,690 m near Kermi village - 05 hrs.
With the first night in the hills of Nepal at Dharapuri village, morning walk starts heading to a gentle climb following a stream at the last Takuri Chettris village and then leading up and down the trail to a summer pasture area at Sally – Khola river with beautiful waterfall closeby to camp for overnight near to a village of Kermi, from the camp visit the hot springs near to Kermi village.

Day 05: Trek to Muchu 2,920 m - 05 hrs.
Stareting the morning walk with a climb into Yangar village with nice stone path trail by the river and crossing a bridge over Humla Karnali River and again it leads to a climb passing pretty area of apples and apricot garden and finally reaching at our overnight camp in a small village at Muchu an old monastery with a border police post close by as this village onwards leads to Nepal /Tibet frontier.

Day 06: Trek to Torea 3,380m -04 hrs.
From Muchu, morning journey with a downhill towards Thumkot village, and then climbing past the river, after leaving Humla-Karnali River behind walk leads into a narrow gorge with steep-sided path, from here a long hour on the gradual nice path with a gentle climb after Bumchiya Khola river gorge reaching at overnight camp in Torea small village with half day free at leisure visitng around the village area.

Day 07: Trek to Sip-Sip 3,800 m - 05 hours.
After Torea village slowly adding more altitude in our journey, as the walk continues with an uphill to a small ridge at 3,500 meters high, countering the ridge top with super views of Yari valley below andhigh snow capped mountains in the distance, and then walking by an irrigation canal and into a large wide valley of Jhyakthang chu with Buddhist prayer walls marking along the trail.

From here a gentle climb to reach Yari, a moderate size village, an interesting place with police post, government custom office and primary school and neat cultivated, farm areas harveting good crops of millets, barley, amaranth (Marcia) wheat, buckwheat’s, potatoes and radishes. After a break here observing this village life walk carries on to a climb on the wide valley, passing many traders, pilgrims and animals goats, sheep’s and yaks, then ending this lovely walk at a small settlement of cattle herders with few shops at Sip-Sip to set our overnight camp close and beneath the base of Nara Lagna pass.

Day 08: Trek to Hilsa 3,720m via Nara Lagna - 06 hours.
The last walk in Nepal side before heading back to Kathmandu, morning walk leads to the frontier Hilsa village, after going through a long climb at Nara Lagna pass with huge rock on the top at 5,000 meters or 15,030ft, this will be the highest top of this trip in the Nepal side, from the top looking at awesome views of Tibetan plateau with Humla Karnali River below with green farm fields of Sher in the distance and of Api and Saiphal mountains, after a nice stop with the grand panorama heading to a descent on the dusty trail back to Humla Karnali River and towards our last overnight camp in Nepal at Hilsa village right on the border with South Western part of Tibet and the gatway to Lake Manasarover, Rakshes Tal and holy mountain of Kailash.

Day 09: Cross the border with 02 hrs drive to Taklakot 3,770m.
Morning bidding farwell to Nepal for a week or more leading to a short strenous climb at Sher chekcpost in Tibet, China here meet our Tibetan guide and driver who will accompany us throughout the trip in Tibet, after visa and passport formalities at the post, afew hours drive takes to the town of Taklakot or Purang, an interesting town where traders and merchants from all around the Himalayan countries of Pakistan, Kashmir, India and Nepal and beyond of Silk Route use to come here for trade in earlier days, at present there’s only Tibet and Nepal exists with few from Indian side. Overnight in the best available guest house or hotels.

Day 10: Drive to Lake Manasarover 4,510 m - 03 hours journey
From Taklakot morning starts with a drive over Thalladong pass at above 5,000 meters pass with grand views of Mt. Gurla Mandhata at 7,728 meters, and of large lake of Rakhes Tal, from here heading towards the great Barkha valley plain on worlds highest and largest plateau with arid, barren country scapes and then reaching at the shore of holy Lake Manasarover near Chu Gompa (monastery)for overnight stop in a lodge or guest house or camp (depending upon the pilgrim seasons).

Day 11: Rest day at Lake Manasarover for acclimatization.
An important to have rest or free day after week of traveling in high altitude, specialy Tibet where the average altitude is over 4,000 meters, rest here at Lake Manasarover allows you to acclimatize well before heading higher around Mt, Kailash circuit or kora, take a short walk up to Chu Gompa which is quite interesting situated on the red cliff hill, or walk by huge lake Manasarover which is regarded as sacred by both Hindu and Buddhists, and it is about 75 meters deep, 90 k.m. long and 60 k.m. wide, the belief is that a dip in the holy lake will clean the sins of a thousand life times, this large lake located in South West Tibet between Mt. Kailash 6,714 meters and Mt. Gurla Mandhata mountain range.

Day 12: Drive to Tarboche 4,700 m trek to Dhirapuk 5,010 m - 05 hrs.
After a fine time with rest day, starting the morning with a short drive on the windswept valley plain to near Darchen town, which is a busy place with market, during high pilgrim season it is crowded with Tibetan and Indian pilgrims for kora, parikrama or holy circuit.

While journey carries on beyond Darchen to Tarboche west of Mt. Kailash and this palce regarded as holy spot where the festival takes place (Saga Dawa) in end of April or in the month of May at Buddha’s birth anniversary, from here starting the holy walk leading north on the wide exposed dry, arid terrain to Shershong, and with gradual uphill slopes and pleasant but hard walk due to altitiude after 3-4 hours reaching at Dhiraphuk Gompa for overnight stop either in simple lodge or in tents, this place offers stunning view of Mt. Kailash North Face.

Day 13: Trek to Zutul-Puk 4,790 m - 06 hours.
From this scenic spot, morning walk continues with a climb up the moraine for few hours leading to the highest spot of this trip at Dromo-la with 5,630 meters or 18,525ft and it is regarded as holy and main spot for prayer and as well with offering rituals, the top with big boulder representing goddess Dolma or Dromo (Tara) festooned with thousands of prayer flags and offering by Hindu’s and Buddhist pilgrims.

This holy place a physical and spiritual high spot for pilgrimage or kora, after a nice stop here, descend towards a wide valley plain and then on reaching the bottom of the pass, walk gets pleasant reaching at Zutul-Puk Gompa for overnight stop in tents and lodge depending upon the season and pilgrims crowd.

While “Zuthul” a Tibetan name for cave, this place was a meditation spot of 11th centuary poet, saint Milareppa, his footprints can be seen on a rood cave.

Day 14: Trek near Darchen and drive near the base of Mayum-la 5,050m.
Today the last day of this holy circuit and kora, morning walk leads to a nice gradual walk for few hours on the winding trail, reaching at a narrow valley

Gorge, from here our walking route turns west towards Darchen, just an before Darchen ending this holy trek for a drive towards near Mayum-la pass base for overnight camping, around this area chances of spotting some wild life and the beautiful Kang a wild ass can be seen herds around this place.

Day 15: Drive to Saga 4,500m - 06 hrs.
Leaving the Barka wide plain to other side of the territory, driving over Mayum-la pass at 5,050 meters, to reach other side of the huge valley with fabulous views of snow capped mountains bordering Tibet and Nepal, a scenic drive leading past many scattered farm villages and nomads camps with large heard of sheeps, goats and yaks grazing on this wide exposed valley and crossing few short high passes reaching at Saga town for the overnight in good lodge or hotels. Saga town slowly truning into city in few years time, located near the holy river Bhramaputra or Yalrlung Tsangpo from the source of Mt.Kailash.

Day 16: Drive to Nyalam 3,560 m - 05 hrs
After Saga heading east as the drive gets closer to Nepal mountains, and then crossing this great wide river on a long bridge and heading due east on the vast barren plains of Tibetan plateau with wonderful views of mountains bordering with Nepal and the great bulk of Mt. Shishapangma world’s last 14th highest at 8,013 meters with adjoining Langtang, Jugal Himal and Dorji Lakpa peaks.

After 4-5 hours of scenic drive reaching on the last pass of this trip at Laylung-la at 5,050 meters with amazing scenery and panorama of great mountain range with close views of Langtang, Dorji Lakpa, Shishapangma, Gaurishanker to Numbur, all these mountains bordering Tibet and Nepal, from here end of the Tibetan great plateau as the drive descends to river gorge narrow valley passing many interesting Tibetan villages and its farmlands and finally ending the day drive Nyalam town for last overnight stop in Tibetan soil.

Day 17: Drive to Kathmandu via Tibet / Nepal border - 06 hrs journey.
Today, last day in Tibet for few hours as the drive leads back to lush vegetation and tree lines of rhododendron, pines and oaks forest, the drive continues on winding downhill road following the Bhote kosi river downstream as our drive reach at Zhangmu border town, here going through immigration and custom process and continue a short drive to the Nepal / Tibet, China Friendship Bridge. On leaving and bidding farewell to our Tibetan guide and drive, and after the bridge back in Nepal soil and to Nepal immigration at Kodari, here again with the passport and visa formalities, then 4 to 5 hours of good scenic drive brings you back at Kathmandu and transfer to respective hotels after life time experience of Simikot & Mt.Kailash,Tibet wonderful trip with Annapurna Encounter great management and organizing this amazing journey.

Day 18: In Kathmandu with sightseeing tour at places of interest.
A free day in Kathmandu with morning guided sightseeing tour (on request) at places of interest. Kathmandu city and the surrounding valley steeped with history, culture. Kathmandu is full of World Heritage Sites with old Temples, Monasteries, Stupas, Royal Courtyard and Palaces, afternoon free at leisure for souvenirs shopping.

Day 19: International departure for home ward bound.
Last day in Nepal with memorable moment and awesome experience and good time with Annapurna Encounter services, as per the international flight time our AE staff will transfer you to airport for the flight back home or to respective countries.
