Annapurna Encounter offers a classic trekking in the Far North East of India in Sikkim & Around Kanchenjunga Himalaya on the old route to Nepal / Tibet, Journey to Sikkim & Around Kanchenjunga with Darjeeling Hill Station around high valleys of Sikkim, an extension of Eastern Himalaya landscapes, starting this fabulous trip with a scenic flight to the low area of south east Nepal Terai at Bhadrapur and then an interesting drive to Darjeeling hill town famous for Teas,
Timber and Tourism located in the shade of world’s 3rd highest Mt. Kanchenjunga.

Visiting interesting places in Darjeeling also known as “Queen of Hills” with another good drive on the hilly road to Yuksom in Sikkim to start this fabulous trekking beneath the towering and massive Mt. Kanchenjunga Himalaya range, from this small town in Yuksom, trekking uphill passing into nice small village of Tshoka in the midst of enchanting alpine woodlands of rhododendron, pines, oaks, magnolia and firs trees. This wonderful walk leads further up on leaving the woodlands for dry arctic zone with stunning views of great massive bulk Mt.Kanchenjunga range, Talung, Kabru, Pandim and Siniolchu peaks which are all located in Sikkim. In the North-East, the beautiful peak of Chomolhari in Bhutan peeps over the Chola Nathula range.

On a clear day even the tips of Mt.Everest and Makalu in Nepal can be seen in the distance, and then reaching at Samiti lake a small glacial pond for a day hike to the highest point of this trekking on top of Goecha-la pass at 4, 942 meters for breathtaking views of Mt.Kanchenjunga at close distance with other adjoining peaks, from here heading back to Yuksom for another interesting drive out of Sikkim area to Kalimpong one of the major Darjeeling town famous for orchids flowers and plants and then back to warmer area on the flat land of Terai of India and then entering back to Nepal side in Bhadrapur for sweeping scenic flight back to Kathmandu, after an excellent and remarkable trip to Sikkim & Around Kanchenjunga with Annapurna Encounter

Day 07: Trek to Tshokha 3,060 meters - 06 hrs.
Day 08: Rest day at Tshokha for acclimatization.

Day 19: International departure to respective countries.

Day 01: Arrival in Kathmandu and transfer to hotel.
On reaching Kathmandu international airport our AE staff will receive with a transfer to hotel in the hub of Kathmandu around Thamel area, an interesting place with shops, stores, international standard restaurants. Our guide will meet and inform you with details of the hotels and of Sikkim and Darjeeling trek & tour.

Day 02: In Kathmandu sightseeing and preparation.
Morning sightseeing tour at places of interest with world heritage sites of Kathmandu best places of Pashupatinath Temple, Bouddhanath Stupa and Kathmandu old palace square (Durbar), afternoon at leisure preparation for the trip to Darjeeling and Sikkim.

Day 03: Fly to Bhadrapur and drive to Darjeeling and transfer to hotel.
Morning transfer to Kathmandu domestic airport for flight to Bhadrapur with super panorama of snow capped mountain range including Mt. Everest and Mt. Kanchenjunga during 45 minutes flight, on reaching Bhadrapur town located South East of Nepal in sub-tropical climatic zone close to India North East border.

From here on leaving Nepal to enter Indian soil with an interesting drive towards Darjeeling, the road climbs on the green hills with sea of tea plantations driving on the zig-zag and winding road passing many villages and towns and finally reaching the famed hill station in Darjeeling known as “Queen of the Hills.”
Here transfer to respective nice hotels with evening dinner in the hotel restaurant.

Day 04: Sightseeing tour in Darjeeling 1,890 meters.
Morning a short drive with a tour of major places of Darjeeling visit the famous Zoological Park where you can watch the rare Red Panda, Snow Leopards and other Himalayan wild cats and other mammals, from here a short walk to Mountaineering Institute with much information of Himalaya and of early expeditions to Mt. Everest and Kanchenjunga, where late Tenzing Norgay Sherpa (the 1st summiteers on Mt. Everest in May 29th 1953 with Sir Edmund Hillary)

was the chairperson of this institute. After a wonderful time visit the local busy bazaar where you will see many Darjeeling people of Nepali origin with same language and culture as in Nepal. From the market with interesting time return back to hotel preparation for the next trip to Sikkim and the trek around Kanchenjunga.

Day 05: Drive to Pelling 1,665 meters - 05 hrs.
On leaving Darjeeling for Sikkim with an interesting drive with views of Kanchenjunga mountain range and great maze of tea gardens passing many villages and towns on the winding uphill road reaching at Pelling after crossing the Testa River over a bridge that separates state of Sikkim and Darjeeling which is in West Bengal state of India, at Pelling transfer to nice moderate size tourist class hotel with fabulous views of Kanchenjunga mountain range.

Day 06: Drive to Yuksom 1,730 meters - 04 hrs.
Morning with beautiful views, drive continues on the road to Yuksom towards uphill passing Legship town, and then reaching Yuksom with first over night in tents with nice camp site on the grassy filed at Yuksom.

Yoksum was the first capital of Sikkim and it was here that the 1st Chogyal (King or Monarchy) was consecrated by the three holy Lamas (Buddhist priest)
in 1642 AD.

Day 07: Trek to Tshokha 3,060 meters - 06 hrs.
Starting the first day trekking to Tsokha leading past farm villages on the uphill trail, after an hour of gradual walk into sub tropical forest and crossing a bridge, the climb continues for another three hours on a path lined with alpine trees of rhododendron, pines, oaks, magnolia and coming at a small farmland at Bakim.

From here another an hour climbs to overnight camp at Tsokha the last village on route to Goecha-la. Tsokha a small Tibetan village consisting of dozen houses and a monastery with a Government Trekkers Hut. Camp is made on the premises of this hut an excellent campsite on a flat surface with a view of Pandim peak towards northeast.

Day 08: Rest day at Tshokha for acclimatization.
An important and necessary to stay here for extra day to acclimatize on this high altitude before heading further to higher elevations, here visit its small monastery and explore the village and surrounding area with view of Pandim peak towards north.

Day 09: Trek to Dzongri 4,030 meters - 05 hrs.
After a nice stop at Tsokha, morning walk leads uphill past the monastery leaving this last village for few days, walk enters enchanting forest of rhododendron, pines and hemlocks after a steep uphill for 2 hours, then leading to a gentle climb at a small clearing called Pedhang for lunch, Pedhang with a small hut with an old rundown view tower. From here an hour steep climb to the ridge of Deurali with fabulous view of Mt.Kanchenjunga massif and Kabru pea. From here onwards the tree lines disappears only with sparse vegetation of dwarf rhododendron (azalea) and juniper bushes, an hour of undulating walk brings to Dzongri in a wide valley with several shepherds huts and shades. From this camp at Dzongri offers excellent view of Mt. Pandim with Mt. Kanchenjunga.

Day 10: Trek to Thansing 3,789 meters - 04 hrs.
Morning walk leads to a relatively gradual trail with a clear view of Mt. Kanchejunga, route diverts towards north west for a while, the path follows a short gentle climb with gradual walk most of the way for two hours before descending to the river, and then a steep descend for an hour coming to a cattle herders huts near a river, here reaching back into pine tree lines with a short break walk continues heading to a climb with few steep section till it reaches a large glacial valley at Thangsing for lunch and overnight stop, this beautiful camp site with few large huts serving as Guest House.

Day 11: Trek to Samiti lake 4,310 meters - 04 hrs.
From this nice camp site, starting the morning walk for only 4 hours to camp at Samiti lake, trek follows with a gradual climb for an hour at the end of the valley, leaving the valley behind leading to a steep climb on rocky path and moraines, as the climb reaches top ridge, offering wonderful views of snow capped peaks and of the valley below, a short descend brings at a level ground to camp at Samiti Lake. Samiti Lake, a sacred glacial fed lake, on auspicious time as per the Tibetan Buddhist calendar, this place is flooded with pilgrims from all around Sikkim and Darjeeling area. Near the campsite a nice large log hut for travelers to stay on pilgrimage season.

Day 12: At Samiti lake for hike to Goecha-la 4,942 m - 06 hrs.
Today heading to our highlight at Goecha-la pass top ridge, the highest spot of this trip, starting earlier to catch the views on time before the clouds gets in.

The trail leads to a climb along the gully, as the path is rough on moraine and boulders then finally reaching at Goecha-la on the highest spot of this trek with tremendous views of Mt.Kanchenjunga East Face. After a marvelous time retrace the journey back to Samiti Pokhari for overnight.

Day 13: Trek to Kok-Tshering 3,550 meters – 06 hrs.
From Samiti lake walks leads to Thangsing on the same trail, after Thangsing taking an alternate route to Yoksom through Bakhim instead of going back to Dzongri, the route descents all the way to Bakhim into dense forests.

From here route meanders to a steep climb for an hour through rhododendron, firs, hemlocks and pines tree lines, and finally walk follows on gradual path to reach our overnight camp at Kok- Tshering where the trail from Tshoka to Dzongri joins.

Day 14: Trek back to Tshoka - 04 hrs.
Today a short walk of less than 4 hrs to Tshoka, an opportunity to catch the views and the beautiful surrounding what you have might miss earlier. The path descends all the way to Tshoka through pristine forest of oaks, rhododendron and pines trees.

Day 15: Trek to Yuksom – 05 hrs.
The trail from here leads to a nice and pleasant walk for few hours on the downhill trail to Bakhim, from this small farm area walk follows on the same trail all the way to Yuksom for the last overnight camp.

Day 16: Drive to Kalimpong 1,245 meters - 05 hrs.
From Yuksom, morning drive to another charming place of Darjeeling zone to Kalimpong town, the drive from Yuksom on the same route till Melli Bazaar, near Teesta Bridge. From the bridge following the River Teesta for a short while then the road branches off on the winding uphill for an hour to Kalimpong, in Kalimpong overnight in one of the most convenient accommodation at Hotel Himalayan, located on a magnificent spot. Hotel Himalayan still retains the touch of heritage from the British Raj.

Day 17: Drive to Bhadrapur 04 hrs and fly to Kathmandu 45 mins.
Today an end at Indian soil leaving for Kathmandu, from Kalimpong drive is pleasant reaching subtropical area on the low lands, on arrival at the border of Indian side, check in at Indian Immigration, then a short drive to Nepal frontier at Kakarvita for another Government immigration formalities. From here an hour drive to Bhadrapur for the flight back to Kathmandu, arriving at Kathmandu domestic terminal transfer back to respective hotels after an enjoyable and remarkable trip to Sikkim & around Kanchenjunga.

Day 18: In Kathmandu free day for shopping souvenirs.
A free day in Kathmandu with morning guided sightseeing tour (on request) at places of interest. Kathmandu city and the surrounding valley steeped with history, culture. Kathmandu is full of World Heritage Sites with old Temples, Monasteries, Stupas, Royal Courtyard and Palaces, afternoon free at leisure for souvenirs shopping.

Day 19: International departure for home ward bound.
Last day in Nepal with memorable moment and awesome experience and good time with Annapurna Encounter services, as per the international flight time our AE staff will transfer you to airport for the flight back home or to respective countries.
